The Buta motif originated in Persia (modern-day Iran) and has been used for centuries in Persian art and textiles. It later spread to India, where it became a staple in Indian textiles, particularly in Kashmir shawls. The motif was eventually adopted by Western cultures and became known as paisley. The design is often associated with fertility, eternity, and the cycle of life, making it a symbol of both beauty and deep cultural significance.
